Karein joined PTL in August 2018, with over 17 years’ experience in the pensions industry, advising clients with schemes ranging in size from £10 million to £3 billion. She began her career as a trustee adviser and scheme actuary with Mercer and Hymans Robertson before spending 7 years as a corporate adviser at PwC.
She has worked with a range of organisations, from large multi-national manufacturers to universities and charities. In all cases, her empathy and understanding of the organisation, and desire to ensure that trustees and sponsors are working together collaboratively, have been key to her success. Karein has helped pension schemes define their end goal, evaluate their options and formulate an overall strategy. She has been instrumental in the implementation of pension change projects, including de-risking, benefit change, scheme closure, member option exercises and buy-in.
As an experienced qualified actuary, Karein has an in-depth understanding of pension scheme funding and the strategic options that are available. Her experience means she is perfectly placed to understand the pressures that exist in managing a pension scheme and to find solutions that meet the needs of both the scheme members and the sponsor’s business. This, coupled with Karein’s attention to detail and extensive experience of communicating complex concepts to trustees, sponsors and members, means that she adds significant value, particularly at times of change.
