What was your favourite subject at school? Worst?
My favourite subject was Geography. Worst by far was Art unless you want a drawing of a stick man.
Do you have a nickname?
I was known as Bill at school even by the teachers. No idea why.
If you had to be classified as a member of a “generation” which would it be?
What was the first record that you bought?
Band Aid – “Do They Know It’s Christmas”.
What was the last concert you went to?
Muse at Wembley Stadium.
What did you want to be when you were at school?
At primary school I wanted to be a policeman. By the time I reached secondary school I was still too short.
What was your first job?
Worked on the till at Tesco’s. Still remember the code for bananas (sad I know).
How did you start in the pensions profession?
Completely by accident. I applied for a twelve month contract job and fifteen years later I’m still working in pensions.
What is your favourite book and film?
Favourite film is easily “The Departed”. I don’t really have a favourite book but tend to read historical fiction eg Sharpe, Emperor at the Gates of Rome.
Do you support a sporting team?
London Irish in rugby & Aston Villa for football.
What three adjectives would your colleagues use to describe you?
Diligent, reliable, personable.
What aspect of pensions legislation or provision would you change if you could?
Who is the most irritating person in the industry or public eye?
I honestly can’t think of anybody!
Who is the most influential person in the pensions industry?
Should saving into a pension be compulsory?
Yes, auto-enrolment is a good idea but employees have the option to opt-out which I believe a large number will do so.

What is your worst habit?
Muttering under my breath.
When was the last time you lost your temper?
What was the last “bargain” you got?
I’m always after a good bargain, but my wife will tell you that they rarely are!
What is your favourite meal and drink?
Steak and chips with a pint of Old Speckled Hen.
What is the biggest bet you ever placed and did you win?
£50 on a dead cert at Cheltenham. Of course it didn’t win!
Who would be your ideal dinner guest?
What was the last country you visited?
Greece, three years ago.
How do you plan to spend your retirement years?
Depends what the retirement age is when I get round to retiring! Probably with the family though.
