At PTL we pride ourselves on being personable. Meet Lesley Peek.
What was your favourite subject at school? Worst?
I liked most subjects, but almost certainly my favourite was PE. My worst was probably geography, and I am still rubbish at it!
Do you have a nickname?
I have a number of nicknames, different ones for home, previous jobs and with my different netball teams. So, depending the context in which you see me, will depend on what I am referred to as! That is all the information I will give away on that one!
What was the first record that you bought?
Single – Angry Anderson “Suddenly” (the theme from Scott and Charlene’s wedding in Neighbours)
Album – “Wow” by Bananarama (I was young – please do not judge me!)
If you were an animal what would you be?
An elephant because I have an annoying habit of not often forgetting things. Annoying for other people that is!
What did you want to be when you were at school?
An England netball player until I realised there was no money in it in those days!
What was your first job?
An assistant at Hackney Council Pensions Department.
How did you start in the pensions profession?
I decided to take some time out of my Sports Science degree and I was offered three temp jobs on the first day of looking. The one I took was in Hackney Council Pensions Department. Obviously a life changing experience as I left a sports related career far behind.
What is your favourite book and film?
I have far too many to name one of each!
Do you support a sporting team?
Hertfordshire Mavericks – I expect most people will have to google this find out who they are and the league they play in!
What three adjectives would your colleagues use to describe you?
Organised (I hope), bossy, sociable.
What aspect of pensions legislation or provision would you change if you could?
Anything around Barber or GMP. Prior to joining PTL I was running the wind up project for a scheme and these two issues caused the majority of complications and delays.
Who is the most irritating person in the industry or public eye?
Who is the most influential person in the pensions industry?
I couldn’t name just one, mainly because I would lose favour with the other influential people I have contact with.
Should saving into a pension be compulsory?
Pension or ISA?
What is your worst habit?
Taking control/organising – my husband states he has not picked a holiday destination in the 15 years we have been together. I have already come up with the plans for the next two years, so we have agreed 2020 is all his (or so he thinks)!
When was the last time you lost your temper?
Earlier in the year when builders were not providing estimates when they said they would. Obviously they don’t have SLAs!
What was the last “bargain” you got?
An electric spiralizer for a fraction of the full price, gotta love cooking gadgets.
What is your favourite meal and drink?
Food: Chocolate ice cream
Drink: I love a good cocktail!
What is the biggest bet you ever placed and did you win?
I don’t bet. I even spent four days in Vegas and didn’t even put a single coin in a slot machine!
Who would be your ideal dinner guest?
Almost anyone from Strictly Come Dancing (not Bruno though) or Bob Harper.
What was the last country you visited?
Spain for a long weekend in Ibiza.
How do you plan to spend your retirement years?
Being active. My grandad lived to 93 years of age and was still riding his pedal bike around at that point!
Congratulations, you’ve won the lottery. What next?
Book a big holiday somewhere exotic.
Lesley joined PTL in September 2016 after working in the pensions industry for 17 years on a wide range of schemes spanning both the public and private sector.
