Featured Face: Kim Hartwell

Kim HartwellWhat was your favourite subject at school? Worst?

My favourite would have to be one the sciences Biology, in particular. My worst PE particularly gymnastics. I absolutely hated it and felt like a duck out of water although I was in the netball team so was obviously good at that.

Do you have a nickname?

I’ve had several over the years. Kimmy, Baby, Kimbo and Kimster

If you had to be classified as a member of a “generation” which would it be?

Generation X I guess as I was a teenager during the 70’s!

What was the first record that you bought?

Well, l didn’t buy it, it was a gift from my parents along with a record player for my 12th birthday and it was a reggae song, Suzanne Beware of the Devil by Dandy Livingstone and on the Horse label I remember it well.

What was the last concert you went to?

I think it was one the Princes Trust Concerts at The Royal Albert Hall or could have been Reading Rock Festival where I obviously saw a lot of different bands but it wasn’t in the last 5 years is all I know!

What did you want to be when you were at school?

An Air Hostess but my mother convinced me that working in an office and being a secretary was the better way to go.

What was your first job?

It was a Saturday job in Saxone’s shoe shop but prior to that I had also worked for my Dad who owned a hotel and a catering business and had silver service waitressed/commi’d in the kitchen along with helping the chamber maid from the age of 10.

How did you start in the pensions profession?

I transferred from Pitmans LLP and side stepped across to PTL.

What is your favourite book and film?

My favourite book Pride and Prejudice and my favourite film Big with Tom Hanks.

What three adjectives would your colleagues use to describe you?

Friendly, helpful, efficient.

Who is the most irritating person in the industry or public eye?

Russell Brand.

Should saving into a pension be compulsory?

Yes but it should be put into ISA’s yearly and anything over the top should then be put into a pension.

What is your worst habit?

Being a little too “direct” on occasions!

When was the last time you lost your temper?

Until last week it had been a long while but I didn’t take it out on anyone I just vented it with a good friend and listener.

What was the last “bargain” you got?

About a month ago when I picked up a beautiful Prada bag for a £10 – bargains are one of my passions.

What is your favourite meal and drink?

I don’t really have a favourite meal as I love food in general but it would likely be a savoury dish and could be from almost any country in the world. Drinks – good wines and coffees.

What is the biggest bet you ever placed and did you win?

 £5 each way on a horse at Lady’s Day at Ascot and no I didn’t win – last of the big spenders I don’t gamble generally apart from the Grand National or a special day out.

Who would be your ideal dinner guest?

The AbFab girls for fun or Richard Branson for his business secrets/know how.

What was the last country you visited?

Australia at Christmas/New Year 2014/5 but technically China as I had an overnight stop over on the way home.

How do you plan to spend your retirement years?

I haven’t thought about it, working I guess!

Kim joined PTL in 2010 winding up a group of small pension schemes which she particularly enjoys along with assisting a team consisting of a Director, Client Directors and Managers. Immediately prior to this she worked for PTL’s sister company Pitmans LLP.
